From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Detlev-Rohwedder-Haus is a historical building located in Berlin, Germany. It is named after Detlev Karsten Rohwedder, a German politician and manager who was assassinated in 1991. The building is currently the seat of the Federal Ministry of Finance.

History[edit | edit source]

The Detlev-Rohwedder-Haus was originally constructed between 1935 and 1936 as the headquarters of the Reich Air Ministry, under the direction of architect Ernst Sagebiel. During the Second World War, the building was heavily damaged but was later rebuilt in the 1950s.

In 1952, the building was renamed the House of Ministries and served as the seat of the Council of Ministers of East Germany. After the German reunification, the building was renamed in honor of Detlev Rohwedder, who was the head of the Treuhandanstalt, the agency responsible for privatizing the state-owned enterprises of East Germany.

Architecture[edit | edit source]

The Detlev-Rohwedder-Haus is one of the largest office buildings in Berlin, covering an area of 112,000 square meters. The building is designed in the Nazi architectural style, characterized by its monumental and intimidating appearance. The facade of the building is adorned with a large mural titled "Building the Republic" by artist Max Lingner.

Current Use[edit | edit source]

Today, the Detlev-Rohwedder-Haus is the seat of the Federal Ministry of Finance. The building also houses the historical and documentary exhibition "Questions on German history", which traces the path of German history from 1800 to the present day.
