Device
Device is a term used in the medical field to refer to a tool, apparatus, or piece of equipment used to diagnose, treat, or prevent diseases. Medical devices range from simple tools like thermometers and stethoscopes to complex machines like MRI scanners and artificial heart valves.
Types of Medical Devices[edit | edit source]
Medical devices can be broadly classified into the following categories:
- Diagnostic Devices: These are devices used to identify and diagnose diseases. Examples include X-ray machines, ultrasound machines, and blood glucose monitors.
- Therapeutic Devices: These are devices used to treat diseases and conditions. Examples include insulin pumps, pacemakers, and ventilators.
- Preventive Devices: These are devices used to prevent diseases. Examples include vaccines, condoms, and dental floss.

In many countries, medical devices are regulated by government agencies to ensure their safety and effectiveness. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for regulating medical devices.
