Dezful

Dezful is a city in and the capital of Dezful County, Khuzestan Province, Iran. At the 2011 census, its population was 420,000 people in 105,000 families. The city is home to the Dez Dam, one of the oldest in the world.

Dezful has a history dating back to 8000 years ago. The city was established in the Sassanid era and has ancient structures that testify to its history. The name Dezful has been derived from the two words dezj (fortress)+ pol (bridge), which in combination could stand for 'the bridge to the fortress' or 'fortified bridge'.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Dezful is located near the Dez River, and has a hot desert climate with hot summers and mild winters. The city is located in the southwestern part of Iran, in Khuzestan province.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The economy of Dezful is based on agriculture, particularly the cultivation of rice, citrus fruits, and date palms. The city is also known for its leather and textile industries.

Dezful is known for its cultural heritage, including the ancient Dezful Bridge. The city also has several museums and art galleries, and hosts cultural festivals throughout the year.
