Diana Ross was born on March 26, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan. She grew up in a housing project and showed an early interest in music. Ross formed a singing group called The Primettes in high school, which later evolved into The Supremes.

The Supremes in 1966 The Supremes, consisting of Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, and Florence Ballard, signed with Motown Records in 1961. They quickly achieved success with hits like "Where Did Our Love Go," "Baby Love," and "Stop! In the Name of Love." In 1970, Diana Ross left The Supremes to pursue a solo career. She released her self-titled debut album in 1970, which included the hit single "Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)." Ross continued to release successful albums throughout the 1970s, with hits like "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "Love Hangover."
