Diploglossidae is a family of lizards, which is part of the larger order Squamata, encompassing all lizards and snakes. This family, also known as galliwasps or glass lizards, is distinguished by its members' elongated bodies and reduced or absent limbs, which gives them a snake-like appearance. Despite their appearance, they are not snakes and possess distinct anatomical and ecological characteristics that differentiate them from true snakes.

Members of the Diploglossidae family exhibit a range of body sizes and shapes, but they are primarily characterized by their elongated bodies and reduced limbs. Some species have very small limbs or are completely limbless, which aids in their burrowing and slithering movements. Their bodies are covered in scales, and they have eyelids and external ear openings, unlike snakes. These lizards are adapted to a variety of habitats, from forests to grasslands, and they are primarily found in the Neotropics, including parts of Central and South America, and the Caribbean.
