Diplomat
Diplomat is a professional who is appointed by a state to conduct diplomacy with other states or international organizations. The main functions of diplomats revolve around the representation and protection of the interests and nationals of the sending state, as well as the promotion of information and friendly relations.
Duties and functions[edit | edit source]
Diplomats represent the interests and policies of their home country. They communicate with the government of the host country and report back to their home country's foreign ministry. Diplomats also play a role in protecting the citizens of their home country who are residing or traveling in the host country.
Diplomatic ranks[edit | edit source]
There are several ranks of diplomats, which are, in descending order: Ambassador, Minister, Chargé d'affaires, Counselor, First Secretary, Second Secretary, Third Secretary, Attaché, and Assistant Attaché.
Diplomatic immunity[edit | edit source]
Diplomats are granted certain privileges and immunities to ensure they may perform their duties with freedom, independence, and security. This includes immunity from arrest or detention and inviolability for their private residence and papers.
