Directive 2001/19/EC
Directive 2001/19/EC is a directive issued by the European Union (EU) that amends several directives concerning the pursuit of professional activities. This directive is part of the EU's efforts to harmonize the conditions for the pursuit of professional activities across its member states.

Directive 2001/19/EC amends Directives 89/48/EEC and 92/51/EEC, which are related to the general system for the recognition of professional qualifications. It also amends Directives 77/452/EEC, 77/453/EEC, 78/686/EEC, 78/687/EEC, 78/1026/EEC, 78/1027/EEC, 80/154/EEC, 80/155/EEC, 85/384/EEC, 85/432/EEC, 85/433/EEC and 93/16/EEC, which are related to the professions of nurse responsible for general care, dental practitioner, veterinary surgeon, midwife, architect, pharmacist and doctor.

The purpose of Directive 2001/19/EC is to facilitate the free movement of professionals within the EU. It does this by harmonizing the conditions for the pursuit of professional activities and by ensuring the mutual recognition of professional qualifications between member states.
Provisions[edit | edit source]
Directive 2001/19/EC introduces several provisions to facilitate the recognition of professional qualifications. These include:
- The introduction of a mechanism for the recognition of professional experience.
- The introduction of a mechanism for the recognition of qualifications obtained in third countries.
- The introduction of a mechanism for the recognition of qualifications obtained through non-formal learning.
