Donald Land
Donald Land is a video game developed by Data East for the Family Computer. The game was released in Japan on February 20, 1988. It is based on the McDonald's fast-food franchise and its cast of characters, including the famous mascot Ronald McDonald.
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
In Donald Land, players control the character of Ronald McDonald as he embarks on a quest to rescue his friends who have been kidnapped by the evil King Gorge. The game is a side-scrolling platformer, with Ronald able to jump, run, and throw apple bombs to defeat enemies. The game consists of seven worlds, each with its own unique theme and enemies.
Development[edit | edit source]
Donald Land was developed by Data East, a Japanese video game company known for its arcade games. The game was one of several licensed games developed by the company during the 1980s. Despite its association with McDonald's, the game was only released in Japan and has never been officially localized for other markets.
Reception[edit | edit source]
While Donald Land did not receive much attention upon its release, it has since gained a cult following among retro gaming enthusiasts. The game is often praised for its colorful graphics, challenging gameplay, and unique premise.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Donald Land is considered a unique piece of video game history due to its association with McDonald's. While the game was not a commercial success, it has been preserved by video game historians and collectors. It is often cited as an example of the unique and often bizarre licensed games that were common during the 8-bit era of video games.
