Douglas, Wyoming is a city in Converse County, Wyoming, United States. It is the county seat of Converse County. The city is located in the central part of the state, along the North Platte River. As of the 2020 census, the population of Douglas was 6,384.

Douglas was established in 1886 as a stop along the Chicago and North Western Railway. The city was named after Stephen A. Douglas, an American politician from Illinois. Douglas quickly grew as a center for the cattle industry and later became known for its involvement in the Wyoming State Fair, which has been held annually since 1905.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Douglas is situated at an elevation of 4,836 feet (1,474 meters) above sea level. The city covers a total area of 4.76 square miles (12.33 km²), all of it land. The North Platte River runs through the city, providing a natural resource and recreational opportunities.

Douglas experiences a semi-arid climate (Köppen climate classification BSk) with cold winters and warm summers. Precipitation is relatively low, with the majority falling in the spring and early summer months.
