Douglas Ivester (born November 26, 1947) is an American business executive, best known for his tenure as the CEO of The Coca-Cola Company.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Ivester was born on November 26, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended the University of Georgia, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1969.
Career[edit | edit source]
The Coca-Cola Company[edit | edit source]
Ivester joined The Coca-Cola Company in 1979 as a financial analyst. Over the years, he held various positions within the company, including Vice President of Corporate Planning and Senior Vice President of Finance. In 1997, he was appointed as the CEO of the company, succeeding Roberto Goizueta.
During his tenure as CEO, Ivester faced several challenges, including a controversy over the recall of Coca-Cola products in Europe due to contamination fears. He also faced criticism for his management style and decision-making process. In 2000, he stepped down as CEO and was succeeded by Douglas Daft.
Post-Coca-Cola Career[edit | edit source]
After leaving The Coca-Cola Company, Ivester served on the boards of several companies, including SunTrust Banks, Inc. and The Home Depot. He also became a partner at the private equity firm, Ripplewood Holdings LLC.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Ivester is married and has two children.
