Drinker may refer to a person who consumes alcohol, or specifically to a heavy drinker. The term can also refer to a person who drinks any type of beverage. In a broader sense, it can also refer to animals or machines that consume liquid.

The term "drinker" originates from the Old English word 'drincan' which means to drink. The term has been in use since the 14th century.

Types of Drinkers[edit | edit source]

There are various types of drinkers, categorized based on their drinking habits. These include:

  • Social Drinker: A person who only drinks alcohol in social situations.
  • Binge Drinker: A person who consumes large amounts of alcohol in a short period of time.
  • Chronic Drinker: A person who drinks alcohol regularly and excessively, often to the point of addiction.

Drinking, especially heavy drinking, can have various health effects. These can range from minor health issues like dehydration to serious conditions like liver cirrhosis and alcoholism.
