Drug carriers
Drug carriers are substances or techniques used in delivering a drug to the desired location or tissue of the body.

Forms to which substances are incorporated to improve the delivery and the effectiveness of drugs.
Benefits[edit | edit source]
Drug carriers are used in drug-delivery systems such as the controlled-release technology to prolong in vivo drug actions, decrease drug metabolism, and reduce drug toxicity.
Example of drug carriers[edit | edit source]
The drug carriers are commonly used when making sustained release, and controlled release tablets and capsule formulations of many drugs.
New drug delivery systems[edit | edit source]
Drug delivery systems (DDSs) are developed to deliver the required amount of drugs effectively to appropriate target sites. They also help to maintain the desired drug levels.
Future research[edit | edit source]
Research in newer drug delivery systems being carried out in liposomes, nanoparticles, transdermal drug delivery, implants, microencapsulation, and polymers.
