eComStation (eCS) is an operating system based on IBM's OS/2 operating system. It was developed by Serenity Systems International and first released in 2001. eComStation was designed to provide a modern, user-friendly interface while maintaining compatibility with existing OS/2 applications and hardware.

History[edit | edit source]

eComStation was created as a response to the discontinuation of OS/2 Warp by IBM. Serenity Systems International aimed to provide a viable alternative for users who relied on OS/2 for their business and personal computing needs. The first version of eComStation was released in 2001, and the final version, 2.1, was released in 2011.

Features[edit | edit source]

eComStation includes several features that distinguish it from its predecessor, OS/2 Warp:

  • Enhanced GUI with modern themes and icons.
  • Improved hardware support, including support for modern USB devices and SATA drives.
  • Bundled applications such as OpenOffice.org, Firefox, and Thunderbird.
  • Enhanced networking capabilities, including support for modern Wi-Fi standards and VPNs.
  • Compatibility with a wide range of OS/2 applications and drivers.

Versions[edit | edit source]

  • eComStation 1.0 - Released in 2001, the initial version of eComStation.
  • eComStation 1.1 - Released in 2003, included various updates and bug fixes.
  • eComStation 1.2 - Released in 2004, introduced improved hardware support and additional bundled applications.
  • eComStation 2.0 - Released in 2010, featured a significantly updated GUI and enhanced networking capabilities.
  • eComStation 2.1 - Released in 2011, the final version of eComStation, included further updates and refinements.

Discontinuation[edit | edit source]

Development of eComStation was discontinued after the release of version 2.1. The operating system was succeeded by ArcaOS, which continues to provide support and updates for users of OS/2-based systems.
