EMPA

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

EMPA (Eidgenössische Materialprüfungs- und Forschungsanstalt) is a Swiss materials science and technology research institution. It is a part of the ETH Domain, which also includes the ETH Zurich, EPFL, PSI, WSL and Eawag. EMPA's research activities focus on materials science and technology, including nanotechnology, energy and environmental technologies, and human health and performance.

History[edit | edit source]

EMPA was founded in 1880 as a testing laboratory for materials used in engineering and construction. It has since evolved into a modern research and development institution, with a focus on applied materials science and technology.

Research[edit | edit source]

EMPA's research activities are divided into four main areas: materials for health and performance, sustainable built environment, natural resources and pollutants, and materials for energy technologies. These research areas are further divided into several departments, each focusing on a specific aspect of materials science and technology.

Collaboration[edit | edit source]

EMPA collaborates with a wide range of partners, including other research institutions, universities, and industry partners. These collaborations often result in the development of new materials and technologies, which are then transferred to industry for commercialization.
