EPortuguêse
A WHO initiative to improve health information access in Portuguese-speaking countries
ePORTUGUÊSe is an initiative by the World Health Organization (WHO) aimed at enhancing the accessibility and dissemination of health information in Portuguese-speaking countries. This program is part of WHO's efforts to bridge the gap in health information access among countries where Portuguese is an official language, collectively known as the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP).
Overview[edit | edit source]
The ePORTUGUÊSe initiative was launched to support the exchange of health information and knowledge among Portuguese-speaking countries. It seeks to improve the capacity of these countries to access, produce, and share health information, thereby strengthening their health systems.
The program focuses on several key areas:
- Capacity Building: Training health professionals in the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to access and disseminate health information.
- Networking: Establishing networks among health institutions and professionals in Portuguese-speaking countries to facilitate collaboration and information exchange.
- Resource Development: Creating and sharing health information resources in Portuguese, including databases, publications, and educational materials.
Activities[edit | edit source]
The ePORTUGUÊSe initiative undertakes various activities to achieve its goals:
Training and Workshops[edit | edit source]
The program organizes training sessions and workshops for health professionals in Portuguese-speaking countries. These events focus on improving skills in information management, ICT, and the use of health information resources.
Virtual Health Library[edit | edit source]
The initiative supports the development of the Virtual Health Library (VHL) in Portuguese-speaking countries. The VHL is a digital platform that provides access to a wide range of health information resources, including scientific articles, books, and databases.
Blue Trunk Library[edit | edit source]
The ePORTUGUÊSe program also promotes the use of the Blue Trunk Library, a collection of health information materials designed for use in areas with limited access to digital resources. This initiative helps ensure that health professionals in remote areas have access to essential health information.
Impact[edit | edit source]
The ePORTUGUÊSe initiative has significantly contributed to improving health information access in Portuguese-speaking countries. By fostering collaboration and resource sharing, the program has enhanced the capacity of these countries to address public health challenges and improve health outcomes.
