East Brunswick

East Brunswick is a township located in Middlesex County, New Jersey, in the United States. It is part of the New York metropolitan area and is situated on the southern shores of the Raritan River. The township is known for its diverse population, quality education system, and various recreational opportunities.

East Brunswick was incorporated as a township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 28, 1860, from portions of both Monroe Township and North Brunswick Township. The township was initially agricultural, but its character has changed markedly over the past five decades due to residential and commercial development.

Geography[edit | edit source]

East Brunswick is located at the southeastern corner of Middlesex County. It is bordered by nine municipalities: North Brunswick and New Brunswick to the northwest, Old Bridge Township to the southwest, and South River to the northeast, among others. The township encompasses a total area of 22.270 square miles, including 1.2 square miles of water.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 47,512 people residing in the township. The racial makeup of the township was diverse, with a large number of residents identifying as White, Asian, African American, and Hispanic or Latino.

Education[edit | edit source]

East Brunswick is served by the East Brunswick Public Schools, a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The district is recognized for its commitment to excellence in education.

Recreation[edit | edit source]

The township offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including the Crystal Springs Family Waterpark, the Playhouse 22 community theater, and numerous parks and nature reserves.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

East Brunswick is served by several major highways, including U.S. Route 1, Route 18, and the New Jersey Turnpike. The township also offers a commuter parking lot at the intersection of Route 18 and Eggers Street with bus service to New York City.
