Easthampton is a city in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. It is part of the Springfield, Massachusetts metropolitan area. The population was 16,053 at the 2020 census.

Easthampton was first settled by European immigrants in 1664 and was officially incorporated in 1785. Originally a part of Northampton, it became a separate town due to the growth of its population and economy. Easthampton transitioned from a town to a city in 1999.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Easthampton is located in the Pioneer Valley near the Connecticut River. The city covers a total area of 13.8 square miles (35.8 km²), of which 13.4 square miles (34.7 km²) is land and 0.4 square miles (1.1 km²) is water. The city is bordered by Holyoke to the east, Southampton to the west, and Northampton to the north.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
As of the 2020 census, there were 16,053 people, 7,000 households, and 4,000 families residing in the city. The population density was approximately 1,200 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was predominantly White, with small percentages of other racial and ethnic groups.
Economy[edit | edit source]
Easthampton's economy has historically been based on manufacturing, particularly in the textile and paper industries. In recent years, the city has seen growth in the arts and culture sector, with many old mill buildings being repurposed as artist studios and galleries. The city is also home to a number of small businesses and restaurants.
Education[edit | edit source]
Easthampton is served by the Easthampton Public Schools district, which includes Easthampton High School. The city is also in proximity to several higher education institutions, including Smith College in Northampton and Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley.
Government[edit | edit source]
Easthampton operates under a mayor-council form of government. The current mayor is Nicole LaChapelle. The city council consists of nine members, including at-large and district representatives.
