Eau Claire is a city located in Eau Claire County, in the state of Wisconsin, United States. It is the county seat and the principal city of the Eau Claire, Wisconsin Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Eau Claire was founded in 1856 and has a rich history tied to the lumber industry. The city's name is derived from the French phrase "eaux claires," meaning "clear waters," which refers to the Eau Claire River that runs through the city.
