Edinson Vólquez (born July 3, 1983) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher who has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for several teams. Known for his powerful fastball and effective changeup, Vólquez has had a notable career in the MLB.

Edinson Vólquez was born in Barahona, Dominican Republic. He was signed as an amateur free agent by the Texas Rangers in 2001. Vólquez made his MLB debut with the Rangers on August 30, 2005.

Major League Baseball Career[edit | edit source]

Texas Rangers[edit | edit source]

Vólquez began his MLB career with the Texas Rangers, where he played from 2005 to 2007. During his time with the Rangers, he showed promise but struggled with consistency.

Cincinnati Reds[edit | edit source]

In December 2007, Vólquez was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Josh Hamilton. He had a breakout season in 2008, earning a spot on the All-Star team and finishing the season with a 17-6 record and a 3.21 ERA.

San Diego Padres[edit | edit source]

Vólquez was traded to the San Diego Padres in December 2011. He played for the Padres from 2012 to 2013, where he continued to be a reliable starter.

Los Angeles Dodgers[edit | edit source]

In August 2013, Vólquez was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He finished the season with the Dodgers, contributing to their playoff run.

Pittsburgh Pirates[edit | edit source]

Vólquez signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in December 2013. He had a strong season in 2014, helping the Pirates reach the playoffs.

In December 2014, Vólquez signed a two-year contract with the Kansas City Royals. He played a crucial role in the Royals' 2015 season, culminating in their victory in the 2015 World Series.

Vólquez signed with the Miami Marlins in December 2016. On June 3, 2017, he pitched a no-hitter against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Vólquez returned to the Texas Rangers in 2019, where he played until his retirement in 2020.
