EditGrid was an online spreadsheet application that allowed users to create, edit, and share spreadsheets over the Internet. It was part of the growing trend of web-based applications that provided functionality similar to traditional desktop software but with the added benefit of collaboration and accessibility from any location with an internet connection.

Features[edit | edit source]

EditGrid offered a variety of features that made it a competitive choice among online spreadsheet tools:

  • Real-time Collaboration: Multiple users could work on the same spreadsheet simultaneously, with changes appearing in real-time.
  • Data Import and Export: Users could import data from and export data to various formats, including CSV, Excel, and OpenDocument.
  • Remote Data: The application allowed users to pull in data from remote sources, such as RSS feeds and web pages.
  • Version Control: EditGrid maintained a history of changes, allowing users to revert to previous versions of a spreadsheet.
  • Customizable Functions: Users could create custom functions using JavaScript, enhancing the flexibility of the tool.

Usage[edit | edit source]

EditGrid was used by individuals and businesses alike for tasks ranging from simple data entry to complex data analysis. Its ability to facilitate collaboration made it particularly popular among teams that needed to work together on data-driven projects.

Development and History[edit | edit source]

EditGrid was developed by a company called Team and Concepts, based in Hong Kong. It was launched in 2006 and quickly gained attention for its innovative approach to online spreadsheets. However, as competition in the online office suite market increased, EditGrid faced challenges from larger companies offering similar services.

Discontinuation[edit | edit source]

In 2014, EditGrid was officially discontinued. Users were advised to migrate their data to other platforms. The discontinuation was part of a broader trend where smaller web-based applications were either acquired by larger companies or phased out due to the dominance of major players like Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel Online.
