Edmunds County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,071. Its county seat is Ipswich. The county was created in 1873 and organized in 1883. It is named for Newton Edmunds, second Governor of Dakota Territory.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Edmunds County is located in the northeastern part of South Dakota. It is bordered by McPherson County to the north, Brown County to the east, Faulk County to the south, and Potter County to the west. The county's total area is 1,151 square miles, of which 1,127 square miles is land and 24 square miles is water.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 4,071 people, 1,681 households, and 1,142 families residing in the county. The population density was 3.6 inhabitants per square mile. The racial makeup of the county was 98.6% white, 0.2% black or African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 0.6% from two or more races. Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 1.0% of the population.
