Eduardo D. Rodriguez is a prominent American plastic surgeon known for his expertise in facial transplantation and reconstructive surgery. He is currently the chair of the Hansjörg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery at NYU Langone Health.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Eduardo D. Rodriguez was born in Miami, Florida. He pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He then attended the Medical College of Virginia, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree. Following medical school, Rodriguez completed a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Rodriguez furthered his training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in craniofacial surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Rodriguez began his career as a faculty member at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where he was instrumental in developing the facial transplantation program. He led the team that performed the most extensive full face transplant in 2012, which included both jaws, teeth, and tongue.

In 2013, Rodriguez joined NYU Langone Health as the chair of the Hansjörg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery. Under his leadership, the department has become a leader in the field of facial transplantation and reconstructive surgery.
