Elaine Nicpon Marieb

Elaine Nicpon Marieb (1936–2018) was an American author and academic known for her contributions to the field of anatomy and physiology. She authored and co-authored several widely used textbooks and teaching materials.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Elaine Nicpon Marieb was born in 1936 in Northampton, Massachusetts. She earned her nursing degree from the Rutgers University, and later pursued her MA in Biology from Mount Holyoke College. She completed her Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Massachusetts.

Career[edit | edit source]

Marieb began her teaching career at Springfield College, where she taught anatomy and physiology to physical education majors. She later joined Edison State College (now Florida SouthWestern State College), where she developed the first student-oriented anatomy and physiology laboratory manual.

Marieb's textbooks, including Human Anatomy & Physiology and Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology, have been widely used in colleges and universities worldwide. Her work has been translated into more than 10 languages.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Marieb's contributions to the field of anatomy and physiology have been recognized by several institutions. The Elaine Nicpon Marieb College of Health & Human Services at Florida Gulf Coast University is named in her honor. She also established the Elaine Nicpon Marieb Foundation, which supports research and education in health and science.
