Ellsworth County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kansas. As of the 2020 census, the county population was 6,257. The largest city and county seat is Ellsworth. Ellsworth County was organized on February 26, 1867, and named for Fort Ellsworth, which had been named for 2nd Lieutenant Allen Ellsworth of the 7th Iowa Cavalry, who supervised construction of the fort in 1864.
