Erotic humiliation
Erotic humiliation is a sexual practice, involving the consensual use of psychological humiliation in a sexual context, where one person gains arousal or erotic excitement from the powerful emotions of being humiliated and demeaned, or of humiliating another. It is often associated with BDSM and sexual roleplay.
Overview[edit | edit source]
Erotic humiliation can be done verbally and/or physically, and can take place privately or publicly. Some individuals assume an acting role and others prefer to be spoken to in a degrading way. A classic technique that can be used to put the submissive into a bottom mind space is to humiliate them while also providing them with sexual stimulation. Select individuals who desire this form of humiliation also use it to acquire emotional release.
Types of Humiliation[edit | edit source]
Erotic humiliation can be divided into two categories, Public Humiliation and Private Humiliation.
Public Humiliation[edit | edit source]
In public, erotic humiliation can be done discreetly in a way that others in the public are unaware of the act. For example, the submissive can be ordered to use a moderately high heel shoe and no underwear, while the dominant can symbolically demonstrate their dominance through this.
Private Humiliation[edit | edit source]
Private humiliation can involve a variety of techniques, from simple verbal humiliation, degrading tasks or rituals, to complex scenarios of humiliation play which may involve elements of BDSM or other sexual activities that the submissive would not engage in under normal non-humiliating circumstances.
Psychological Aspects[edit | edit source]
The desire to be beneath the other partner during intercourse, the idea of "getting caught" (as in having sex in the garden or woods), and simulated rape are emotional games that emphasise status, vulnerability, and control. However, for most participants, the humiliation is not about being a real person, but rather about playing a role or enjoying the "game".
Safety[edit | edit source]
As with all sexual activities, erotic humiliation can be enjoyable in the context of consensual play but may be psychologically damaging if forced upon someone against their will, leading to long-term trauma. Therefore, it is important to ensure that all participants are consenting adults and the act is safe, sane, and consensual.
