Eugene is a city located in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is the county seat of Lane County and the third most populous city in Oregon, with a population of over 170,000 as of the 2020 census. Eugene is known for its natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and focus on the arts.

Eugene was founded in 1846 and named after its founder, Eugene Franklin Skinner. Skinner erected the first cabin in the area, which doubled as a trading post. In 1853, Skinner's cabin was used as the official post office for the surrounding settlement, and the town of Eugene was officially established.

Eugene is located at the southern end of the Willamette Valley, near the confluence of the McKenzie and Willamette Rivers. The city is approximately 50 miles east of the Oregon Coast.
