Eureka County, Nevada[edit | edit source]

Eureka County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nevada. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,987. Its county seat is Eureka. Eureka County is part of the Elko Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Eureka County is in the northeastern region of Nevada. It is bordered by Elko County to the north and east, White Pine County to the east, Nye County to the south, and Lander County to the west.

History[edit | edit source]

Eureka County was created out of eastern Lander County in 1873 after silver was discovered more than 100 miles (160 km) to the east. With the creation of the county, a booming mining camp became the county seat. This town, named Eureka, is the largest population center in the county, with a population of approximately 600.
