Everclear (alcohol)
Everclear is a brand of grain alcohol that is bottled by the Luxco company. It is known for its high alcohol content, which can reach up to 95% alcohol by volume (ABV), making it one of the strongest alcoholic beverages available on the market.
History[edit | edit source]
Everclear was first produced in the United States during the Prohibition era, when the production, sale, and consumption of alcoholic beverages were illegal. Despite these restrictions, Everclear was able to be produced and sold due to its high alcohol content, which allowed it to be classified as a "non-consumable" product.
Production[edit | edit source]
Everclear is produced by fermenting corn, which is then distilled to produce a high-proof alcohol. The distillation process involves heating the fermented corn to create steam, which is then cooled and condensed to create the alcohol. This process is repeated several times to increase the alcohol content.
Uses[edit | edit source]
Due to its high alcohol content, Everclear is often used in the production of liqueurs and cocktails. It is also used in cooking, as it can be used to extract flavors from ingredients without adding any additional flavors. In addition, Everclear is often used in homemade tinctures and extracts due to its ability to extract the active compounds from herbs and spices.
Health Risks[edit | edit source]
Due to its high alcohol content, Everclear poses significant health risks if consumed in large quantities. These risks include alcohol poisoning, liver damage, and addiction. As such, it is recommended that Everclear be consumed in moderation and with caution.
Legal Status[edit | edit source]
The sale of Everclear is regulated in many countries due to its high alcohol content. In the United States, the sale of Everclear is banned in several states, including California, Florida, and Maine. However, it is legal to purchase and consume Everclear in other states, provided that it is not consumed in public places.
