ExPASy
ExPASy (Expert Protein Analysis System) is a bioinformatics resource portal operated by the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics and in particular the SIB Bioinformatics Resource Portal providing access to scientific databases and software tools in different areas of life sciences.
Overview[edit | edit source]
ExPASy is an extensible and integrative portal accessing many scientific resources, databases and software tools in different areas of life sciences. Scientists can hence find a wealth of information in one single place, including protein sequence and molecular structure databases, proteomics, genomics, phylogeny, systems biology, population genetics, transcriptomics etc.
History[edit | edit source]
ExPASy was established in August 1993 and was the first website dedicated to molecular biology. Originally it was an enzyme database and was called Expert Protein Analysis System. Over the years, it has evolved to become a portal to many important databases and software tools in various fields of life sciences.
Features[edit | edit source]
ExPASy provides access to a variety of databases and software tools. These include:
- Protein sequence databases
- Molecular structure databases
- Proteomics tools
- Genomics tools
- Phylogeny tools
- Systems biology tools
- Population genetics tools
- Transcriptomics tools
