Exalted
Exalted[edit | edit source]
Exalted is a tabletop role-playing game (RPG) published by White Wolf Publishing. It is set in a high fantasy world where players take on the roles of powerful beings known as "Exalts." The game is known for its rich setting, complex characters, and epic storytelling.
Setting[edit | edit source]
The world of Exalted is called the Age of Sorrows, a time of myth and legend. It is a world where gods, spirits, and mortals interact, and where the Exalted, chosen by the gods, wield incredible power. The setting is inspired by a mix of mythology, anime, and epic fantasy.
Creation[edit | edit source]
Creation is the name of the world in which Exalted takes place. It is a flat world surrounded by the Wyld, a chaotic and ever-changing realm. The world is divided into several regions, including the Blessed Isle, the Scavenger Lands, and the South.
The Exalted[edit | edit source]
The Exalted are divided into several types, each with unique abilities and origins:
- Solar Exalted: Chosen by the Unconquered Sun, they are the most powerful of the Exalted and are known for their prowess in combat and leadership.
- Lunar Exalted: Chosen by Luna, they are shapeshifters and masters of survival.
- Sidereal Exalted: Chosen by the Maidens of Fate, they are seers and manipulators of destiny.
- Dragon-Blooded: Descendants of the Elemental Dragons, they are the most numerous and form the ruling class of the Realm.
- Abyssal Exalted: Chosen by the Deathlords, they are dark reflections of the Solar Exalted.
- Infernal Exalted: Chosen by the Yozis, they are corrupted champions of the Primordials.
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
Exalted uses a unique system that emphasizes narrative and cinematic action. Players roll ten-sided dice to determine the success of their actions, with the number of successes determining the outcome. The game encourages players to describe their actions in vivid detail, creating a dynamic and engaging storytelling experience.
Character Creation[edit | edit source]
Character creation in Exalted involves selecting a type of Exalt, choosing abilities, and developing a backstory. Players are encouraged to create complex characters with rich histories and motivations.
Combat[edit | edit source]
Combat in Exalted is fast-paced and dramatic. Players can perform "stunts" by describing their actions in creative ways, gaining bonuses to their dice rolls. The system is designed to emulate the epic battles seen in martial arts films and anime.
Themes[edit | edit source]
Exalted explores themes of power, responsibility, and the struggle between order and chaos. The Exalted are powerful beings, but their actions have consequences, and they must navigate a world filled with intrigue and danger.
Editions[edit | edit source]
Exalted has gone through several editions since its initial release in 2001. Each edition has expanded on the game's lore and mechanics, introducing new types of Exalted and refining the gameplay.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Exalted has been praised for its innovative setting and mechanics, as well as its emphasis on storytelling. It has a dedicated fanbase and has inspired numerous supplements, novels, and fan creations.
