Exult
Exult is an open-source software project that allows users to play the classic role-playing game Ultima VII on modern operating systems. The project was initiated to enable the game, originally developed by Origin Systems and released in 1992, to be played on contemporary hardware and software environments.
Development[edit | edit source]
Exult was created by a group of enthusiasts who reverse-engineered the original game engine of Ultima VII. The project is written in C++ and uses the SDL (Simple DirectMedia Layer) library to handle graphics, sound, and input. The primary goal of Exult is to faithfully reproduce the gameplay experience of Ultima VII while also providing enhancements and bug fixes.
Features[edit | edit source]
Exult supports both Ultima VII: The Black Gate and its sequel, Ultima VII Part Two: Serpent Isle. Some of the key features of Exult include:
- High-resolution graphics support
- Enhanced audio capabilities
- Bug fixes and improvements over the original game
- Support for modern operating systems such as Windows, macOS, and Linux
- Modding capabilities, allowing users to create and play custom content
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
The gameplay of Ultima VII involves exploring a richly detailed world, interacting with NPCs, and completing various quests. The game is known for its deep story, complex characters, and open-world design. Exult preserves these elements while making the game accessible to modern players.
Community and Contributions[edit | edit source]
Exult has a vibrant community of developers and players who contribute to the project's ongoing development. The project is hosted on various code repositories, and contributions are welcomed from anyone interested in improving the software. The community also creates and shares mods, adding new content and features to the game.
