FAES (Fundación para el Análisis y los Estudios Sociales) is a Spanish think tank that was founded in 1989. It is a non-profit organization that focuses on research and analysis of political, economic, and social issues in Spain and internationally. FAES has played a significant role in shaping conservative policies and ideologies in Spain, particularly through its close association with the People's Party (Partido Popular).

History[edit | edit source]

FAES was established by former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar in 1989. Its primary objective was to provide a platform for intellectual debate and policy analysis within the conservative movement in Spain. Over the years, FAES has grown to become one of the most influential think tanks in the country.

Activities[edit | edit source]

FAES engages in a wide range of activities to fulfill its mission. These include conducting research, organizing conferences and seminars, publishing books and reports, and providing policy recommendations to political leaders. The think tank covers various areas such as economics, international relations, social policy, and governance.

Influence[edit | edit source]

FAES has had a significant impact on Spanish politics and policymaking. Its close ties with the People's Party have allowed it to influence the party's agenda and policy decisions. Many prominent politicians, including former Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, have been associated with FAES. The think tank's research and analysis have often been cited in political debates and have shaped conservative policies in Spain.

Criticisms[edit | edit source]

Despite its influence, FAES has faced criticism from various quarters. Some argue that the think tank's close association with the People's Party compromises its independence and objectivity. Others have accused FAES of promoting conservative ideologies that are out of touch with the realities of modern Spain. Additionally, there have been concerns about the lack of transparency in FAES' funding sources.
