Facebook Messenger
Facebook Messenger is an instant messaging service and software application developed by Meta Platforms. Originally developed as Facebook Chat in 2008, the company revamped its messaging service in 2010, and subsequently released standalone iOS and Android apps in August 2011. Over time, Facebook has released new apps on a variety of different operating systems, launched a dedicated website interface, and separated the messaging functionality from the main Facebook app, requiring users to download the standalone apps.

Facebook Messenger allows users to send text messages, voice messages, and video calls. It also supports group messaging, sharing of photos and videos, and integration with other apps. Users can also send money to friends, play games, and use various third-party services within the app.
Text and Voice Messaging[edit | edit source]
Users can send text messages to other users, as well as voice messages. The app supports a variety of multimedia, including images, videos, and audio files.
Video Calling[edit | edit source]
Messenger supports video calling, allowing users to have face-to-face conversations with their contacts. Group video calls are also supported.
Group Chats[edit | edit source]
Users can create group chats with multiple participants. These group chats support all the same features as individual chats, including text, voice, and video messaging.
Integration with Other Apps[edit | edit source]
Messenger integrates with a variety of other apps, allowing users to share content from those apps directly within their conversations. This includes integration with Instagram, another service owned by Meta Platforms.
Payments[edit | edit source]
Messenger allows users to send and receive money through the app. This feature is available in select countries and requires users to link their debit cards to their Messenger accounts.

Users can play games within Messenger, either solo or with friends. These games range from simple puzzles to more complex multiplayer experiences.
