Faversham Almshouses are Grade II listed Almshouses located in Faversham, Kent, England. They were built in 1863.
History[edit | edit source]
The almshouses were originally founded and endowed by Thomas Mendfield in 1614 to provide housing for six widows. In 1721, Thomas Napleton founded and endowed houses for six men. In 1840, Henry Wreight, a local solicitor and former Mayor of Faversham, provided a bequest that allowed for the rebuilding of the almshouses on a larger scale. The rebuilding was completed in 1863 by architects Hooker and Wheeler of Brenchley, Kent, with G W Chinnock Bros of Southampton as the builders.
In 1982, the accommodation was modernized at a cost of £1,000,000.
