Fyffes
(Redirected from Ffyfes)
Fyffes is an Irish-based company that specializes in the importation and distribution of tropical produce. The company was established in London in 1888 by Edward Wathen Fyffe and his son, Hudson. The name "Fyffes" is derived from the family name of its founders.
History[edit | edit source]
Fyffes was initially a banana importing business, which later expanded to include other tropical fruits such as pineapples and melons. The company was the first to introduce the banana to the British market. In 1901, Fyffes was incorporated as a public company.
In 1969, Fyffes merged with the United Fruit Company, forming the largest banana company in Europe. The company was later acquired by the Total Produce group in 2018.
Operations[edit | edit source]
Fyffes operates in several countries across the globe, including the United States, Canada, Europe, and Central and South America. The company's main products are bananas, pineapples, and melons, which are sourced from countries such as Costa Rica, Honduras, and Colombia.
Fyffes is committed to sustainable and ethical practices in its operations. The company is a member of the Fairtrade Foundation and the Rainforest Alliance, and it has implemented various initiatives to reduce its environmental impact and improve the welfare of its workers.
