Fifteen Restaurants[edit | edit source]

Fifteen Restaurants is a chain of restaurants founded by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver. The concept behind Fifteen Restaurants is to provide training and employment opportunities for disadvantaged young people in the culinary industry. The first restaurant was opened in London in 2002, and since then, several other locations have been established around the world.

History[edit | edit source]

The idea for Fifteen Restaurants was born out of Jamie Oliver's desire to make a positive impact on the lives of young people who were facing barriers to employment. In 2001, Oliver started a training program called "Fifteen" in London, where he recruited 15 young apprentices from disadvantaged backgrounds and trained them to become professional chefs.

The success of the training program led to the opening of the first Fifteen Restaurant in London in 2002. The restaurant not only served as a platform for the apprentices to showcase their culinary skills but also generated revenue to sustain the training program.

Locations[edit | edit source]

Since the opening of the first restaurant in London, Fifteen Restaurants has expanded to several other locations worldwide. Some of the notable locations include:

  • Fifteen London: The flagship restaurant located in London, UK.
  • Fifteen Cornwall: Situated in Watergate Bay, Cornwall, UK, this restaurant offers stunning views of the beach.
  • Fifteen Amsterdam: Located in Amsterdam, Netherlands, this restaurant brings the Fifteen concept to the Dutch culinary scene.
  • Fifteen Melbourne: Situated in Melbourne, Australia, this restaurant showcases the local flavors and ingredients of the region.

Impact[edit | edit source]

Fifteen Restaurants has had a significant impact on the lives of the young apprentices who have gone through the training program. By providing them with valuable skills and employment opportunities, Fifteen Restaurants has helped many individuals break free from the cycle of poverty and unemployment.

The success of the Fifteen concept has also inspired other similar initiatives around the world, aiming to empower disadvantaged youth through culinary training and employment.

Recognition[edit | edit source]

The innovative approach of Fifteen Restaurants has garnered recognition and accolades over the years. Some of the notable achievements include:

  • The Fifteen London restaurant received a Michelin star in 2003, just one year after its opening.
  • Jamie Oliver was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 2003 for his services to the hospitality industry and his efforts in training young people.
