Figs (company)

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Figs (company) is an American online medical apparel retailer based in Santa Monica, California. The company was founded in 2013 by Heather Hasson and Trina Spear. Figs is known for its modern, fashionable scrubs and medical uniforms, which are sold directly to healthcare professionals on its website.

History[edit | edit source]

Heather Hasson and Trina Spear founded Figs in 2013. Hasson, a fashion industry veteran, was inspired to start the company after a conversation with a friend who was a nurse. She was surprised to learn that most medical professionals bought their own scrubs, and that the available options were often uncomfortable and unflattering. Spear, who was working in finance at the time, joined Hasson to help launch the company.

In 2014, Figs raised $2 million in seed funding from various investors, including Campfire Capital and Mohr Davidow Ventures. The company used the funding to expand its product line and grow its team.

In 2016, Figs became the first medical apparel company to offer a one-for-one program, in which it donated a set of scrubs to a healthcare worker in need for every set sold. The company has since donated hundreds of thousands of sets of scrubs to healthcare workers around the world.

In 2020, Figs went public on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "FIGS."

Products[edit | edit source]

Figs sells a variety of medical apparel, including scrubs, lab coats, and footwear. The company's products are known for their modern, fashionable designs and high-quality materials. Figs uses a proprietary fabric blend that is antimicrobial, wrinkle-resistant, and moisture-wicking.

Reception[edit | edit source]

Figs has been praised for its innovative approach to medical apparel. The company has been recognized by Fast Company as one of the most innovative companies in the world, and its products have been featured in numerous media outlets, including The New York Times, Forbes, and Vogue.

However, the company has also faced criticism for a controversial ad campaign in 2020, which was perceived as disrespectful to women in medicine. Figs apologized for the ad and removed it from its platforms.
