Flan
Flan is a type of dessert that originated from Spain. It is a custard dessert with a layer of clear caramel sauce on top. The dish is known for its creamy texture and sweet taste.
History[edit | edit source]
Flan has been a staple in Spanish cuisine since the Roman times. It was originally a savory dish, but it evolved into a sweet dessert over time. The dish was brought to the Americas by the Spanish conquistadors, and it has since become a popular dessert in many Latin American countries.
Preparation[edit | edit source]
Flan is made by heating sugar and water in a saucepan until it caramelizes. The caramel is then poured into a mold, and a custard mixture made of eggs, sugar, and milk is poured on top. The mold is then placed in a water bath and baked until the custard is set. Once cooled, the flan is inverted onto a plate, revealing the caramel sauce on top.
Variations[edit | edit source]
There are many variations of flan, including chocolate flan, coconut flan, and cheese flan. Some versions also include fruit or nuts.
Health considerations[edit | edit source]
While flan is a delicious dessert, it is high in sugar and should be consumed in moderation. It can be part of a balanced diet when eaten occasionally and in small portions.
