From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Fleet is a brand of over-the-counter products that are used for a variety of medical purposes. The most well-known product in the Fleet line is the Fleet Enema, which is used to relieve occasional constipation. Other products in the Fleet line include laxatives, suppositories, and products for bowel cleansing before medical procedures.

History[edit | edit source]

Fleet was founded in 1869 by Dr. Charles Browne Fleet, a pharmacist in Lynchburg, Virginia. The company initially produced home remedies, but later expanded to produce a variety of over-the-counter products. The company was acquired by C.B. Fleet Company, Inc. in 1990.

Products[edit | edit source]

Fleet's product line includes a variety of over-the-counter products for digestive health. These include:

  • Fleet Enema: A saline laxative that provides relief from occasional constipation. It works by drawing water into the colon, which helps produce a bowel movement.
  • Fleet Phospho-soda: A saline laxative that is used for bowel cleansing before medical procedures. It works by causing the intestines to hold more water, which softens the stool and increases the number of bowel movements.
  • Fleet Glycerin Suppositories: A laxative that is used to treat occasional constipation. It works by irritating the lining of the intestine, which helps to produce a bowel movement.
  • Fleet Mineral Oil Enema: A lubricant laxative that is used to treat occasional constipation. It works by softening the stool, making it easier to pass.

Safety and Side Effects[edit | edit source]

Like all medications, Fleet products can cause side effects. These can include cramping, bloating, diarrhea, and nausea. In rare cases, serious side effects can occur, including severe stomach pain, bloody stools, and vomiting. If these occur, medical attention should be sought immediately.
