Food Banks in the United Kingdom are non-profit, charitable organizations that distribute food to those who have difficulty purchasing enough to avoid hunger. In recent years, the demand for food banks has increased significantly across the UK, reflecting broader issues of poverty and food insecurity.

The concept of food banks originated in the United States in the 1960s, but it wasn't until the early 2000s that the idea took hold in the UK. The first food bank in the UK was established in 2000 by The Trussell Trust, a Christian charity, in response to the growing need for emergency food aid. Since then, the number of food banks has grown rapidly, with a network of over 1,200 centres operating across the country as of 2023.

Individuals and families in need are identified by frontline professionals such as doctors, social workers, and school staff, who then issue them a food bank voucher. This voucher can be exchanged for a food parcel at a food bank, which contains enough food for approximately three days.

The food distributed by food banks is largely donated by the public, with collection points set up in supermarkets, schools, and churches. In addition to individual donations, food banks also receive supplies from corporate partners and surplus food from the food industry.
