Fox Animation Studios was an American animation production company located in Phoenix, Arizona. It was a division of 20th Century Fox Animation, which is a subsidiary of 20th Century Fox. The studio was established in 1994 to compete with other animation studios such as Walt Disney Animation Studios and DreamWorks Animation.

History[edit | edit source]

Fox Animation Studios was founded by Don Bluth and Gary Goldman, who were former animators at Walt Disney Animation Studios. The studio's first feature film was Anastasia, which was released in 1997. The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $140 million worldwide.

Following the success of Anastasia, the studio released Bartok the Magnificent in 1999, a direct-to-video spin-off of Anastasia. However, their next theatrical release, Titan A.E. in 2000, did not perform well at the box office, leading to significant financial losses for the studio.

Closure[edit | edit source]

Due to the poor performance of Titan A.E., Fox Animation Studios was closed in 2000. The closure marked the end of traditional hand-drawn animation for 20th Century Fox, which then shifted its focus to Blue Sky Studios, known for its CGI animated films such as Ice Age.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Despite its short lifespan, Fox Animation Studios left a lasting impact on the animation industry. Anastasia remains a beloved classic, and the studio's work is still appreciated by animation enthusiasts.
