Francesco De Bonis (born April 14, 1982, in Varese, Italy) is a former professional road cyclist from Italy. He is most noted for his time with the teams Gerolsteiner and Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni-Androni Giocattoli, competing in international cycling competitions.

Career[edit | edit source]

Francesco De Bonis began his professional career with the Gerolsteiner team in 2006. He rode with this team for two years before moving to Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni-Androni Giocattoli in 2008. During his tenure with these teams, De Bonis competed in several prominent cycling races, although he did not secure any major victories.

Doping Allegations[edit | edit source]

In 2009, De Bonis became the first cyclist to be suspended under the Union Cycliste Internationale's biological passport program. The program, which monitors selected biological variables over time that indirectly reveal the effects of doping rather than attempting to detect the doping substance or method itself, indicated irregularities in De Bonis's biological passport. Consequently, he was handed a two-year suspension from professional cycling.

Post-Cycling Life[edit | edit source]

Following his suspension and the subsequent end of his contract, De Bonis retired from professional cycling. Information about his activities following his cycling career remains limited.
