Frank Sexton (1895)

Frank Sexton (born March 15, 1862 – died November 12, 1930) was an American Major League Baseball player who played as a first baseman during the late 19th century. He played for several teams in the National League and the American Association.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Frank Sexton was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Little is known about his early life and how he began his career in baseball.

Baseball Career[edit | edit source]

Sexton made his Major League debut on May 1, 1884, with the Cincinnati Red Stockings of the American Association. He played with the team for one season before moving to the St. Louis Maroons in 1885.

In 1886, Sexton joined the Washington Nationals of the National League. He played with the Nationals until 1889, when he moved to the Columbus Solons of the American Association. Sexton finished his Major League career with the Louisville Colonels in 1890.

Career Statistics[edit | edit source]

During his Major League career, Frank Sexton played in 367 games, had 1,406 at-bats, and achieved a batting average of .239. He also recorded 336 hits, 4 home runs, and 168 runs batted in (RBIs).

Later Life and Death[edit | edit source]

After retiring from baseball, Sexton returned to Cincinnati, where he lived until his death on November 12, 1930. He was buried in Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati.

Frank Sexton is remembered as a versatile first baseman who played during the early years of professional baseball. His contributions to the teams he played for are part of the rich history of Major League Baseball.
