Frederic E. Mohs
Frederic E. Mohs (1 March 1910 – 2 July 2002) was an American physician and general surgeon, best known for developing the Mohs surgery, a microscopically controlled surgery used to treat common types of skin cancer.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Frederic E. Mohs was born on March 1, 1910, in Burlington, Wisconsin. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and later received his medical degree from the same institution in 1934.
Career[edit | edit source]
After completing his medical degree, Mohs began his career at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. It was here that he developed the Mohs surgery, a technique that removes skin cancer under local anesthetic with a 99% success rate. This technique is still widely used today and has saved many lives.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Mohs' innovative surgical technique has had a significant impact on the field of dermatology. His method of removing skin cancer has become a standard procedure in many hospitals and clinics around the world. Mohs passed away on July 2, 2002, but his legacy lives on through his groundbreaking work in the field of skin cancer treatment.
