Frederick Norton Manning

Frederick Norton Manning (1839–1903) was a pioneering Australian psychiatrist. He was the first superintendent of the Hospital for the Insane in Gladesville, Sydney, where he served from 1868 to 1898. Manning is known for his progressive approach to mental health treatment, advocating for the humane treatment of patients and the importance of occupational therapy.

Manning believed in the therapeutic value of work and encouraged patients to engage in occupational therapy. He also advocated for the humane treatment of patients, arguing against the use of physical restraints and seclusion.
