Fruktsoppa
Fruktsoppa[edit | edit source]
Fruktsoppa is a traditional Swedish fruit soup that is typically served as a dessert or a light meal. It is made by simmering a combination of dried fruits, water, sugar, and spices. Fruktsoppa is known for its sweet and tangy flavor, as well as its vibrant and colorful appearance.
Ingredients[edit | edit source]
To make fruktsoppa, you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 cup dried mixed fruits (such as raisins, apricots, prunes, and apples)
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 cloves
- 1 lemon, zest and juice
- 1 orange, zest and juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
Instructions[edit | edit source]
Follow these steps to prepare fruktsoppa:
- In a large pot, combine the dried fruits, water, sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, lemon zest and juice, and orange zest and juice.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 30 minutes, or until the fruits are soft and tender.
- If desired, you can thicken the soup by mixing the cornstarch with a little water to make a slurry, then adding it to the pot. Stir well and let it simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Remove the cinnamon stick and cloves from the soup before serving.
- Fruktsoppa can be served warm or chilled, depending on your preference. It is often garnished with a dollop of whipped cream or a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Variations[edit | edit source]
There are many variations of fruktsoppa, depending on personal taste and regional preferences. Some common variations include:
- Adding fresh fruits: You can add fresh fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries to the soup for added flavor and texture.
- Using different spices: Instead of cinnamon and cloves, you can experiment with other spices such as cardamom or nutmeg to give the soup a unique twist.
- Adding alcohol: Some recipes call for the addition of a small amount of red wine or port to enhance the flavor of the soup.
- Serving with toppings: In addition to whipped cream and cinnamon, you can also serve fruktsoppa with toasted almonds, crushed cookies, or a drizzle of honey.

Other popular Swedish dishes include meatballs (köttbullar), pickled herring (sill), and cinnamon buns (kanelbullar).
