GREB1

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

GREB1 (Gene Regulated by Estrogen in Breast cancer 1) is a gene that encodes a protein involved in the regulation of estrogen receptor signaling. It plays a significant role in the development and progression of breast cancer.

Function[edit | edit source]

The GREB1 gene is an early response gene that is directly regulated by the estrogen receptor. It is involved in the proliferation of breast cancer cells and is considered a critical mediator of estrogen-driven growth in hormone-responsive cancers.

Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]

GREB1 expression is often used as a biomarker for estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. It is also being studied as a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of hormone-dependent cancers.

Research[edit | edit source]

Studies have shown that GREB1 is necessary for the full proliferative response to estrogen in breast cancer cells. It is also implicated in the regulation of other hormone receptors and may play a role in prostate cancer and endometrial cancer.
