Gale is a educational publisher based in Farmington Hills, Michigan, in the United States. It is a division of Cengage Learning, and specializes in library reference material, academic databases, and digital services for libraries, schools, and businesses.

Gale was founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1954 by Donald L. Emery, but its roots can be traced back to 1941 with the establishment of the Educational Publishing Corporation. The company was later purchased by the International Thomson Organization in 1985, and was part of the Thomson Learning division of the Thomson Corporation when it was renamed Gale in 1999. In 2007, Gale was sold to Cengage Learning, formerly known as Thomson Learning, which is owned by private equity firms Apax Partners and OMERS.

Gale offers a variety of products and services, including both print and digital resources. Its product line includes databases like Academic OneFile, General OneFile, and InfoTrac, as well as digital resources like Gale Virtual Reference Library and Gale Directory Library. Gale also publishes a range of reference books, including the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, Gale Encyclopedia of Science, and Gale Directory of Publications and Broadcast Media.
