Garfield County, Montana[edit | edit source]

Garfield County is a county located in the U.S. state of Montana. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 1,206. Its county seat is Jordan. The county was founded in 1919 and is named in honor of President James A. Garfield.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Garfield County spans an area of 4,847 square miles, of which 4,677 square miles is land and 170 square miles is water. The county is bordered by McCone County to the north, Prairie County to the northeast, Custer County to the east, Powder River County to the southeast, Rosebud County to the south, and Petroleum County to the west.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,206 people, 545 households, and 370 families residing in the county. The population density was 0.3 inhabitants per square mile. The racial makeup of the county was 98.3% white, 0.2% American Indian, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% black or African American, 0.2% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races.
