Generative
Generative refers to the process of creating, producing, or giving rise to something. In various fields, the term "generative" is used to describe systems, models, or methodologies that generate complex outputs from simpler inputs by following a set of rules or procedures.
Generative in Different Fields[edit | edit source]
Generative Art[edit | edit source]
In the field of art, Generative art refers to art that has been created with the use of an autonomous system. An autonomous system in this context is generally one that is non-human and can independently determine features of an artwork that would otherwise require decisions made directly by the artist.
Generative Grammar[edit | edit source]
In linguistics, a Generative grammar is a grammar in theoretical linguistics that generates exactly those sentences of a language that are grammatically correct. The concept was first proposed by Noam Chomsky in the 1950s as a way to explain how humans can understand and produce sentences they have never heard before.
Generative Design[edit | edit source]
Generative design is a design method in architecture and product design that involves the use of algorithms or other mathematical techniques to create complex shapes and structures. The output could be images, sounds, architectural models, animation and many more. It's a fast method of exploring design possibilities that is often used in fields such as architecture, industrial design, product design, and art.
Generative Models[edit | edit source]
In machine learning, a Generative model is a type of statistical model that generates new sample instances that are similar to the training data. They contrast with discriminative models, which predict outputs based on inputs.
